Emerald Empire

Green_sun.jpg

The Emerald Empire system is divided into various-sized provinces, each controlled by distinct groups. The largest groups, and the largest areas, are controlled by the clans — groups of families descended largely from a common ancestor who had inherited control over their system, as well as the people living in it. There are three planets that can support life and the systems sun has a green tint that causes the skies to have an emerald color.

Great Clans
The Great Clans were each formed by one of the Kami (Gods) and their histories dated back to the very dawn of the Empire. The Great Clans were made up of several family lines, and each Family had their own general purpose within the Clan. Each Clan also had a specific purpose within the Emerald Empire — some area of expertise or mandate that the specific Clan could fulfill better than any others.

Kasai Clan
Shogun: – Akira Kurosawa (Human Male)
Home Word: Suisei – a hot world closest to the sun but rich in mineral wealth. Primarily Human and Oni there are a few settlements of Kitsune & Kenku. Settlements are clustered around the poles and near the two large bodies of water. Large swaths of desert make up the majority of the surface. The Shogun of Clan Kasai has established mines across these deserts that provide the Empire with massive wealth and materials.

Mizu Clan
Shogun: Oda Nobunaga (Human Male)
Home World: Kaiousei – a water world with large archipelagos. Provides the Empire with massive bounties from the seas.

Tsuchi Clan
Shogun: Hôjô Masako (Female Oni)
Home World: Mokusei – The Home world’s only moon and staging area for Imperial forces. The first Imperial colony when the Empire expanded into wildspace.

Kaze Clan
Shogun: Akagerasu (Kenku Male)
Home World: Kinsei – A large asteroid belt near the edge of the system. Several asteroids have breathable atmosphere and can support life. Rare and exotic plants grow here specifically the_ Jinsei no hana_ a powerful healing herb with the rumored ability to prolong life.

Minor Clans
There are a few minor clans in Emerald Empire — clans that had been formed since the birth of the Empire by those other than the Kami. New clans were not founded lightly, and the founders of these clans generally performed some extraordinarily valiant deed or favor for the Empire. Unlike the Great Clans, minor clans generally only had one family, but like the Great Clans, each usually had a specific duty they fulfilled.

Wani Clan – Powerful Merchant clan who controls a large fleet of Spelljammer ships. Given providence over the moons of Suisei.

Koronī Clan – Mandated with finding new resources and worlds to expand the Empire’s reach. Also serves as the diplomatic corps of the Empire.

Imperial Family
In addition to the clans, a very powerful faction are the Imperial Families. The Empress of Emerald Empire has no clan of her own, but she does have her own family, currently the Iweko family, and three families that served her interests directly: the Miya, the Otomo, and the Seppun family. The Imperial Family control the Imperial Legions, which recruited soldiers from all the clans of the Empire. Unlike the Great or Minor Clans, the Imperial families have no Champion, as the Empress herself leads them.

The Imperial Families are often smaller than the families of the Great Clans, but what they lack in numbers they more than make up for in sheer political influence. With the Empress at their head, the Imperial Families are possibly the strongest political group in all of the Emerald Empire.

People of the Emerald Dynasty

In the worlds of Emerald Dynasty, there are many different and extraordinary creatures roaming the lands, and humans are not the only beings to have developed a civilization. In addition to goblins, oni, dragons and a host of other beings, the following are the major species.

Humans
The great majority of the population of the Emerald Dynasty are humans. Humans almost exclusively make up the population of the clans, great and minor, as well as the other groups within Emerald Dynasty.

Kenku

The kenku are an ancient race resembling very large humanoid crows. Kenku are legendary swordsmen and are, at least in legend, responsible for training some of the most famous swordsmen in history.

Naga
The naga are an ancient race of creatures who appear half-human, half-serpent. Long before the rise of the Empire, the Naga had a vast and vibrant civilization. At some point in pre-history, however, the entire race of Naga entered a deep sleep, where they have remained for nearly 100,000 years. The empire considers them to be legends.

Nezumi

The “ratlings” are a race of large, intelligent rats. They currently live in squalor, barely better than animals, although they have once had an extensive, advanced society. Unfortunately, this civilization was entirely within what has become the Shadowlands, and was destroyed when the dark Kami Fu Leng fell to the earth. Nothing found by any explorers has verified the claim of a previous Nezumi society until recently.

Zokujin

The “copper goblins” are small creatures with wiry hair and heads vaguely resembling those of frogs. They were discovered on the world of Suisei – a hot world closest to the sun but rich in mineral wealth. They have extraordinary natural tunneling abilities—being that they eat rock for nourishment, this is little surprise. Because of this, they are often used—involuntarily more often than not—by the Kasai Clan in their various mines. Zokujin live to be centuries old, and an experienced zokujin shaman will have more powerful abilities in the area of Earth magic than is possible for human shugenja.

Oni
Oni were once thought to be demons but over the centuries they were conquered as a people. The Emperor in his divine wisdom saw what an asset the Oni could be and offered them a chance to serve the Empire. Their leader saw this as a way to end the bloodshed and conflict between their races and bent the knee to the Emperor. Several hundred years later the Oni have integrated into Emerald Dynasty culture and are used by many clans as warriors.

Kitsune

Kitsune were thought to be mostly benevolent nature spirits that often take the form of an animal, but on occasion can take human form and sometimes fall in love with Humans. As the Emerald Dynasty expanded this was found to be false. The Kitsune were eventually brought into main stream society with thier induction into the Clans. The Kitsune Family, formerly the Fox clan, has an affinity with Kitsune and call upon them as allies and protect them from harm.
